Ingredients

Preparation

Step 1

Up to you if you wish to rinse your rice to remove excess starch. If you do rinse the rice under cold water in a sieve 2 or 3 times until the water runs clear. Let the rice drain.

Step 2

Add the Basmati rice to the bowl of your rice cooker. (Optionally you can also add your butter, as you wish)

Step 3

Add the water, or chicken broth, into your rice cooker. The amount of liquid depends on your rice cooker and your preference for rice tenderness. As a general rule, for optimal cooking, a 1:2 ratio is ideal for very tender Basmati rice in the rice cooker, though 1:1.5 is also a preference of many for a drier cooked Basmati rice.

Step 4

Place the cover on the rice cooker, and cook.

Step 5

Once finished cooking, we recommend you leave the cooker covered on warm to rest another 5 minutes.

Step 6

Add the knob of butter or margarine, salt and pepper and then fluff the rice with a fork to air the grains.

Step 7

Serve immediately or keep on warm mode until the meal is ready. Optionally you can also unplug the rice cooker if you wish to prevent your rice from further drying out.

Step 8

Note: Rinsing and soaking Dainty rice is not necessary as it is already cleaned. To learn more, read in our rice encyclopedia.
